A wonderful day…

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

tulip-rainbowI’m still recovering from yesterday’s visit to the tulip fields in Skagit County, WA. Yes, they are all that. I know I was supposed to be in awe of the flowers (and I was) but the clouds were really putting on a show, too. It never did rain, but they just billowed all day. If you click on the above photo, you can see more photos. I was really impressed w/Tuliptown’s organization. They are just nice people, and they’ve been doing this for a while. Special thanks to the tractor driver who actually stopped to let me on!

Today’s a day for congratulations, too. Son Pete just found out that his team pitched the winning bid for MSFT’s new phone campaign, and he’s ecstatic. A huge coup for his company, and for him personally.

Then I found that one of the women from my writing group had won a wkend for two, in Walla Walla’s wine country¬† for her essay. Talk about starting strong! (This is a woman who considered herself a “hesitant writer”! Hesitate no more, sister!)

And spending the morning with my Artist’s Way group. What a bunch of powerful women. The growth we’re seeing is outrageous.

It’s just one of those days when the tulips aren’t the only things blooming.

Here comes another Mercury Retrograde…

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Yeah, count me among those who thought that was a lot of hogwash… until I started tracking it in my journals. After several yrs, I can definitely say, Mercury Retrogrades & Virgos do not mix.

Here are the ones for 2009:

Sunday, January 11th, 2009 through Sunday, February 1st, 2009

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009 through Saturday, May 30th, 2009

Sunday, September 6th, 2009 through Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Saturday, December 26th, 2009 through Friday, January 15th, 2010

Let’s see.. in that first one I:

Lost a dear friend thru mis-communication
Quit my job
Ended up in therapy

If you think I’m making all this up, check this out. ¬† Evidently Virgos who are into writing are the worst-hit. Oh, Joy.

And if you look at that list above, Mercury Retrogrades affect about 1/4 of the danged year. My thought is, I also sleep 1/3 of the yr, right? So could I please just sleep thru the Mercury flippin’ Retrogrades? Seriously, the less I do & say, the better off I’ll be. Maybe I’ll invent a M-R muzzle. Or a retreat house for Virgos during “That time of the year.”

I’m determined to figure out how to deal with this. I’m trying to get all my ducks in a row (lining up the packers & movers, getting the oil changed, etc) beforehand. Unfortunately, I also have a visit in the middle of this w/my Aunt & Uncle, and then will be driving w/a Prius full of stuff across the country. What could go wrong, yeah?

My best bet may be to just apologize right now for anything I say or do during that time… And make sure my AAA membership is paid up.

And just for you true believers, here’s a horoscope generator

Love & Cupcakes…

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Well, Pete & Jo are officially engaged now, and there are the cupcakes to prove it!

Jo’s family put on a wonderful engagement party with friends, relatives & neighbors all celebrating together.

I was so touched by how Jo’s sisters really got into it. J stayed up all night making these wild brownie cupcakes & decorating them beautifully. And all the (3) sisters helped make this little display in the entryway.

I was a little overwhelmed, both by the crowd (I’m just not a crowd person) and the overwhelming support of their friends and family. Enough so that those are the ONLY 2 pictures I have of the occasion! Wait till the wedding. I’m glad they’ll have an official photographer, b/c I’ll probably only get a photo of the boat or cake or something.

At any rate, I was really glad to get to meet J’s family; they are just as wonderful as she is. The two of them are just so great together… and that’s what marriage is all about.

Friends don’t let friends…

Life is beautiful!

Which would you rather use? Yeah, me too.

I’ve been using a horrible ouchy folding chair for my desk chair…

About the time I started getting serious about writing, I also decided I’d be moving around a lot. So I told myself I really didn’t need a “real” office chair. After all, it’d just end up in storage. I’d just sit on my nasty folding chair with a blanket for a cushion.

Oddly enough, a lot of my journaling had to do with how much my behind was hurting. And then I started using the chair from hell as a reason to not write so much. Hmmm…

Well, thank goodness for dear friends who took pity on me & gave me a real live office chair. With (yes!) real live padding and even a back. Sometimes it’s just a matter of asking for what you need (note to self…)

So thank you J & S, from the heart of my bottom!
