TGIF #19

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Hey, according to my stats, I just reached 1000 comments today! Of course, 817 of them are spam & have been deleted. If you’ve been thinking of leaving a comment, this would be a good time to do it.

The Writers’ Conference just started today. I woke up late & went down to the hotel (by taxi) to get my packet. My first act of extreme self-care was to not finish the cup of coffee, leave the conference & come back to the casita. There is a workshop @ 2 I don’t want to miss, and then I’ll see how I feel about art studio tours, keynote & dinner. Yay, me!

I give up!

Children asleep on bed

Children asleep on bed

Well, time is winding down, and so am I. I was actually glad that yesterday was rainy & dismal, so I could stay @ home in the casita and make lentil soup. Also did a lot of journaling, watched a movie (Amelie– FINALLY) and generally played hooky. It felt good to just catch my breath.

Tomorrow, the San Miguel Writers’ Conference starts. Just take a look at that schedule. I signed up @ the beginning of December, when I had absolutely no idea what I was doing (I did get a hefty discount.) And now I somehow feel committed to attend all of the events I paid for- to “get my money’s worth.” I mean, shoot, it’s Barbara Kingsolver!!!

At the same time, last weekend’s workshop: Spacious Mind, Spacious Self, was all about clearing out the old, the extraneous, to leave space for the essential. And practicing extreme self care while doing it.

So I think this next week will be a good chance for me to begin learning to do that on a social level.

Then, of course, I’ll be doing it on a physical level, while I try to get everything to fit into 3 smallish suitcases. Although I’m already working on a potlatch-style giveaway party.

So, after 2.5 months in San Miguel, it’s finally occurred to me that I might want to slow down. In fact, I need to, because this wkend, I have an intense 2-day workshop- Spacious Mind, Spacious Self and then next Friday, the San Miguel Writers’ Conference starts up. I’m signed up for the whole deal, from soup to nuts, so need to be in tiptop condition. Barbara Kingsolver is the keynote speaker, so yes, I’m a leeetle excited.

Today, I met some amigas after their yoga (I’ve been giving the ol’ knee a rest) for coffee, then went to the biblioteca & then to the posole place. Yes, it’s as good as advertised. I think I will just live on posole from here on out. Oh, and cafe de ollo (which means coffee cooked in a pot. Very strong & sweetened w/piloncillo, a raw sugar, and cinnamon.) Then home to the casita to relax, listening to Matt Darey at top volume. 😉

Quick note…

Boing Boing

Just a quick  note to say that yes, I’m still alive & kickin’. The countdown to the end of the month, & my return to the “real world” has begun. As is my habit, I’m packing every minute as full as possible.  Tonight, after a pretty busy day (and stocking up for the next predicted storm) I’ve decided to hang out at (gasp!) the casita.

Just some quick word-postcards…

Trekking down Avenida Ignacio Allende (my street) in search of a taxi this am, someone was playing 4NonBlondes “What’s Going On.” Picking my way through the wrappers, dog shit, jumping on curbs to keep from being sideswiped by the bus… Laughing my a$$ off…

Quick visit to Tianguis (Tues Market)… Spanglish w/the cab driver, snatching a pair of unworn lavender corduroy jeans from the eye-high pile, celebrating with three eentsy tacos & horchata.

After 10 visits to my dentist, he finally gets up his courage & asks how the heck I’m wandering around, partying & paying cash…. I hope he didn’t think I”m a drug king-pin! I set his mind at rest. Yep, I have to get to work pretty quick here.

Last night, up on D & E’s terrace, drinking wine & eating cheese after Enneagram class. Watching the clouds rolls by w/fingers crossed, watching the Parroquia turn a darker shade of pink in the sunset.

My darlin’ J, pressing a gift into my hand. She found a red glass heart, surrounded by blazing gold tendrils, on a studio tour… remembered my fixation on corazons… The perfect gift for a fragile, blazing nomad.

Sitting in my darkening casita, Sheryl Crowe playing, sending postcards to the Universe.
