Colchicums (Autumn Crocus)

Colchicums (Autumn Crocus)

Well, it’s been a long dry spell this summer. The ground is as hard as cement, and only a few things are blooming. The colchicums don’t seem to mind at all, nor do the sedums.

The quote of the week:

“If we take eternity to mean not infinite temporal duration but timelessness, eternal life belongs to those who live in the present.”

— Ludwig Josef Johann Wittgenstein

  • You, too, can have a free meditation timer from They also have one for iPhones. Basically a starting sound, a sound in the middle and one at the end, with silence in the middle. Now you don’t have to estimate how long you’ve been meditating.

Palouse Falls, Eastern WA

Palouse Falls, Eastern WA

No, I’m not in Eastern WA- just like the photo. Seems to be how I’m feeling… Abundance springing out where it’s least expected.

Gosh, this has been a great month, but there’s not much posting going on. Honestly, I’m thinking of lots of great posts, but when it’s nearly 100 degrees & the humidity is nearly as high, I’m not sure if I’m walking or swimming. How hot is it? Well I can break a sweat playing Bejeweled.  And frankly, that’s about all I’m good for in this weather.

Thank goodness we had a major thunderstorm today, which was terrific, b/c there’s a lot of corn & tomatoes to be processed. I did make a huge vat of salsa fresca. Got a little crazy w/the jalapenos & Cain won’t even eat it, but we’re pouring it on everything (including mac & cheese.) Also I’m designing my panic room (more about that later.)

Anyway, here’s some fun Friday stuff (for Saturday.)

Some quotes from my guru, Yogi Berra (If you come to a fork in the road, take it.)

Favorite comedian, Steven Wright

For some reason, I’ve been really missing NW music. So listening to KEXP & sometimes (Thanks, Javantea!) I sure don’t consider myself a music geek, but the radio out here is pretty dismal. There’s a new station from DC that plays “Fresh New hits” & it’s like they have one Jason Mraz song & one Dave Matthews song (both from last year) and play them alternately.

Oh, if you liked Bridget Jones’s Diary etc, Helen Fielding has a new heroine: Olivia Joules.

pancakebunnyI’ve decided that on Fridays, I’ll just post fun stuff. Usually things that don’t go anywhere else. Time to lighten up for the wkend.

I’m going to have a terrific wkend, BTW! First comes a non-birthday party @ an Indian restaurant in Winchester today. Then the Crawl is tomorrow. Then Monday, the mater & I take off for Blackwater Falls, with a stop @ the Rio Mall. So if you don’t hear from me for a while, that’s why!

Fun Stuff:

Update on Traveler the Cat: Traveler is now convinced that her cloak of invisibility is functioning. When I let Silky & Doodle in for their VIC food, Traveler rushes in with them. It’s either that, she thinks that I’m unable to count to three…

Magnetic Poetry on your Desktop

Symbolism of Ganesha– one of my favorite deities

Uptight Seattlite

Cooking w/Tassie Pippert– For PV, her biggest fan. (Tassie says this is not dessert, it’s a side dish. I guess for dessert, they just eat sugar right out of the bag.)

Inspirational Quote of the Week:

A career? I’ve thought about this quite a bit sir and I would have to say considering what’s waiting out there for me, I don’t want to sell anything, buy anything or process anything as a career. I don’t want to sell anything bought or processed or buy anything sold or processed or repair anything sold, bought or processed as a career. I don’t want to do that.
