Corazon milagro

What a cool week I’ve had! Sometimes, when I’m not posting, it’s because I’m just having too much fun.

Biggest news of the week- I found my friend B, after many years, on Facebook! She was my dearest friend in college & a n’bor as well, and is actually my oldest son’s godmother. So finding each other again was absolutely thrilling. We Skyped for a while, and sure enough, we were both laughing like hyenas. As if no time had passed at all. Here’s to girlfriends!

2nd biggest news: Strasburg’s Cristina’s Cafe hosted a Green Drinks get-together. Sounds like they had a great time.

Here are some fun Friday links to get your wkend started:

Margaritas

Don't you just love Ann Taintor?

So, another Friday is upon us. I’ve spent it so far in the traditional SMA single-woman-of-a-certain-age style.

Wake up, walk downtown, yoga, followed by brunch w/the ladies, buying Atencion & poring thru Que Pasa, highlighting events for the coming week. Commiserating, sharing survival tips, skirting political issues. A little shopping & back home to the casita. I’m working on my tan & resting up before a Vagabundo Badgrrl reunion tonight.

Yesterday was the birthday of Ignacio Allende, one of the fathers of Mexico (think Geo Washington, for you in the US.) So lots of fireworks, parades, etc yesterday & more tomorrow. And we’re all gearing up for an influx of new tourists in Feb. Prices are going up, casitas are all rented. There’s no room at the inn.

Here are some Friday links for you (somewhat heavy on food):

Humpback Whale Tail

Humpback Whale Tail

We were @ Rincon de Guayabitos (there, I finally got the name right) during whale migration, so of course, many of us wanted to see the whales. The main “whale watching” tours were on a Mexican Party Boat, complete with very loud sound system & lots of teenage mexican staff in pink shirts- oh and a bar.

So our fearless leader negotiated a date & time when we “Canadians” (anyone who is not Mexican in Guayabitos is Canadian, including Germans) could enjoy a peaceful whale watching tour, with our own guide doing the honors (It was a little suspicious that the staff didn’t seem to know or care much about whales, but were very good at mixing drinks & dancing.)

We all get out to the boat (including our two nonagenarians) to find that the staff had not gotten the memo, and was regaling us w/margaritas, cervezas, and Mexican rap music sure to drive every self-respecting humpback to Antarctica. The problem was resolved after a few minutes, and we actually did see a pod of 5 whales much closer than is normal. More pix here.

OK, Friday fun, to start your weekend right:

Vivoli Cafe, SMA

Wow, here comes another year.  That means I get to start a whole new journal. I’m kind of weird about them… they’re based on Julia Cameron’s Morning Pages, but I do them on the computer (which is verboten.) I use Word, change fonts and colors a lot, and password them. Each year has a theme or quote @ the beginning (which sometimes changes mid-year.) When the document opens, it’s always at the top, so I see the quote before I start typing.

Last year was a doozie, so there were several quote/themes. “Weebles wobble but they don’t fall down” was the longest running. But I added the 4 Agreements near the end of the yr, when CH gave me the book. They’ve proven very helpful, especially “Don’t take things personally.”

Anyway, I ended up w/over 81K words, so I guess I had a lot to say. And nothing that can bear the light of day- I’m no May Sarton. Mostly kvetching, stream-of-consciousness crap.

So far I don’t have a theme for 2010, but it may have to do w/re-evaluating things that I’ve considered givens. I’m finding myself doing a lot of that. “Is that true?”

If you’d like to start a journal, here are some questions to get you thinking.

Now, for Friday fun!
