Sorry

That’s for all of you who are stuck working on Labor Day weekend. It does make me wonder what went wrong. Wasn’t Labor Day meant to honor workers? Here’s hoping that you & yours actually spend time together, enjoying a beautiful long summer weekend.

Here are some goodies for you:

After you check your eggs…

eggs of many colors, originally uploaded by woodleywonderworks.

Once again… sigh.

I’m lucky enough to have a friend who raises free range chickens. So when I eat eggs, they’re the kind with the deep orange yolks that only come from eating a variety of chicken-chosen goodies. Bugs, weeds- good stuff.

Battery-raised chicken eggs are, IMHO, a (very) poor substitute, and the recent salmonella outbreak makes that only too clear. Just reading the distribution list makes me shudder. 450 MILLION eggs, distributed from two “farms” in Iowa to 14 states?

Rebekah Denn has put together a reading list, if this is your wake-up call and you choose to do something more than moan about the current state of our food supply.

Autobiography in 5 Short Chapters
By Portia Nelson

1. I walk down the street
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I fall in
I am lost, I am helpless
It isn’t my fault
It takes forever to get out

2. I walk down the street
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I pretend I don’t see it
I fall in again
I can’t believe I am in the same place
But it isn’t my fault
It still takes a long time to get out

3. I walk down the street
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I see it there
I still fall in….it’s a habit
My eyes are open
I know where I am
It is my fault
I get out immediately

4. I walk down the street
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I walk around it

5. I walk down another street

Here are some fun links for your weekend:

Martha explains it all

August 24th, 2010

No, not my sister. The Other Martha.

I hate to say it, but I have a list like this. In Excel, no less. But it’s the only way to keep myself on track.

Note that I have much different things on mine. (You can’t trust a gal with a dog sitting onĀ  her pillow.) Mine has things like “meditate” “Spanish lessons” as well as the ever popular WASH THE DISHES.

What’s on your “daily” list?
